Andre Russell, full name Andre Dwayne Russell is a proper all-rounder from Jamaica. He is among the most indomitable big hitters the entire cricket nation has ever seen in its entire history. Russell can decimate any opponent with his big-hitting abilities down the order and also by his raw pace bowling. He is quite agile as a fielder too. Andre Russell is a genuine all-rounder from West Indies. He was born in the year 1988 on April 29th. Andre generally bats in the lower middle order of every team where he plays and bowls right arm fast. In this modern era of cricket, Russell is considered the most herculean and destructive batsman in the whole world.
At the age of only 19, he made his debut in first-class cricket in 2007. In 2011, he played his first ODI match for his nation against Ireland. He made his T20I debut in the same year against Pakistan. Russell played his IPL match for the first time in 2012 from the Delhi Capital’s side. But there he did not have enough chances to showcase his abilities and was released by the team in 2014. That year he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for just 50 lakhs from the auction. After that, he never looked back and became the most valuable asset not only in the IPL but in the entire cricket history. In the year 2016, he was also part of the T20 World Cup Winning team of West Indies – where he showcased his abilities quite brilliantly.
Andre Russell also holds the record of taking four wickets in four consecutive balls in the world. He also scored the fastest century in the Caribbean Premier Leagues(CPL) in just 42 balls. But in 2018, he broke his record and scored another century in just 40 balls. It is a record to date.
Russell has won many awards in his career. But the most notable ones are winning the “Most Valuable Player” awards two times in the IPL, in 2015 and 2019 for the Kolkata Knight Riders team. In the 2019 edition of IPL, he also won the award for hitting the most number sixes that year by any player.
Domestic Career
Russell made his first-class debut for Jamaica in 2007. But the 2010 season was his best, where he was able to show his full potential to the entire world. In his early days, he also played in England domestic cricket for Barnards Green Cricket Club and there he helped the team to get promotion to the Birmingham League Cricket. There he took 39 wickets and scored 799 runs with the bat in just 11 matches.
Due to his stellar performance in England county, he got a chance in West Indies A team against Ireland, where he also smashed 61 runs from just 34 deliveries. Along with this, he also took 6/42 with the ball in his hand.
IPL Career
After providing numerous match-winning performances for the West Indies team and Bangladesh Premier League(BPL), he was bought by Delhi Capitals in 2012 in the IPL (previously known as Delhi Daredevils). But in these two seasons, 2012 and 2013, he did not get enough chances and also, and his injuries restricted him to exhibit his full all-rounder prowess to the world.
In 2014, he was released by the Delhi team into the auction and there he was bought by the Kolkata team. In the same year, the team also won the IPL trophy. To date, he remains quite loyal to the side and provides an endless number of match-winning performances to the team with both bat and ball every year.
But in 2014, when the Kolkata team won the IPL, he did not contribute a lot and was able to play only a couple of games. In 2015 he started to show his full ability and won Man of The Match awards 3 times that year and became the “Most Valuable Player” of that year. In 2015 he secured the highest batting strike rate of 192 among all players and also, took 14 wickets with the ball in hand. He still holds the highest strike rate among all players.

Other T20 Tournaments
When CPL (Caribbean Premiere League) commenced for the very first time, Jamaica Tallawahs chose Andre Russell to be on their team. Little did they know, how much popular he would become right after that. In that year, he scored 203 runs and the most memorable innings was the 18-ball 33 innings of the final which helped the team to win the CPL tournament.
Due to his stellar performances in various leagues in the world, Melbourne Renegades also signed him for the 4th edition of the Big Bash League(BBL). But he can play only a few games for them because he had to fly back to his country for national duties.
As of now, he plays for almost all famous T20 leagues in the world like BBL, BPL, IPL and many more. In whichever team he plays they have won their leagues at least once in the entire history and he is the main player behind all these. Andre Russell is a true gem of a player when it comes to the T20 format.
Andre Russell has also played many ODI matches for West Indies and provided several memorable knocks with both and the ball. He had provided exceedingly crucial knocks against great teams like Australia, South Africa and England to help his team win the series against them.
Although Andre Russell was never known for his test records. He had played only a handful of test matches in his career and right now he is not even in the test squad of West Indies.
